High School and West Students Explore "Where I'm From"

High School teacher, Mindy Thierolf, and West Elementary 4th grade teacher, Lori Rice, created an opportunity for both of their students to explore who they are, and share those stories with each other! Using George Ella Lyon’s poem, “Where I’m From”, students first reflected/brainstormed various kinds of things that related to their own life stories, such as familiar sayings they heard in their families, memories about loved ones, favorite foods, etc. They then used technology to put pictures with their poems, creating pieces of work telling who they are in poetic form! Today, the high school students traveled to West Elementary and both groups of students shared their "Where I'm From" poems with each other. It was a wonderful learning opportunity for all of the students, building a sense of community across the buildings.
