Influenza A (H1N1)

Novel influenza A (H1N1) is a new flu virus of swine origin that first caused illness in Mexico and the United States in March and April, 2009. It’s thought that novel influenza A (H1N1) flu spreads in the same way that regular seasonal influenza viruses spread, mainly through the coughs and sneezes of people who are sick with the virus, but it may also be spread by touching infected objects and then touching your nose or mouth. Novel H1N1 infection has been reported to cause a wide range of flu-like symptoms, including fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue. In addition, many people also have reported nausea, vomiting and/or diarrhea.

USD320 is continuing to watch the situation carefully. To respond to public concerns about this pandemic we have compiled information regarding this virus.  The following link will aide in answering your questions and address both prevention and procedures on how to reduce transfer of the virus

(Pictured above: Eliezer Martinez,  BJ Kohler & Lane Eichman)

Lane Eichman, BJ Kohler and Eliezer Martinez, members of Wamego High School’s Future Business Leaders of America, recently competed in the National FBLA Virtual Business Challenge.  They placed 6th in the nation out of 294 teams, and earned the opportunity to compete at the FBLA National Leadership Conference this coming summer in Nashville, TN.

This is an official FBLA competitive event sponsored by Knowledge Matters and FBLA.  Students use highly visual simulation software to manage a distribution center.  Teams are ranked based upon their distribution center’s cumulative profit after running the simulation for an entire virtual year.  The challenge lasts for one month, and the students may work through as many virtual years as time will allow.  During this fall competition they were able to manage various aspects of their business including hiring employees, managing sales and managing their fleet at their distribution center.

Eliezer, BJ and Lane, all juniors at Wamego High, also placed 1st in the state of Kansas during this competition.  Eliezer is the son of Marcos and Frances Martinez, BJ is the son of Eric and Kim Kohler, and Lane is the son of Brent and Glenda Eichman, all of Wamego.  Their FBLA advisers are Mrs. Karen Hynek and Mrs. Anne Jardine
