Driver Education classes at USD 320 are offered ONLY during the summer months.
Sessions 1- Normally offered the first 3 weeks of June
Session 2- Offered as needed (enrollment exceeding 48 students) Runs from the last week of June through Wednesday of the 3rd week of July.
1. Must be 15 years of age before December 1, 2013.
2. Must be in at least 8th grade.
3. Must be enrolled in the USD 320 district.
4. Must have learners permit prior to first day of class.
Students with previous driving practice will feel more comfortable and make quicker progress behind the wheel during the Summer Education Course.
There is a $250.00 fee for the course. This fee may be payed in two installments. The 1st installment ($125.00) is due upon registration and the balance must be paid on the second friday of May.
This will usually take place between April 2 and April 26. Registration must be completed at the Wamego High School 2nd floor office only.
Late registrations will not be accepted.
Students will spend two hours every day in the classroom. Our main objective is that the students know the rules of the road and learn the correct fundamentals in all phases of driving. Students will also spend two hours every day in the car driving and observing. Students will gain experience from all phases of driving.
Any student in USD 320 wanting to enroll in summer driver education will need to go to the DMV in Manhattan and obtain a driving permit before class begins in June. In the State of Kansas a student is allowed to obtain a driving permit at the age of 14. A student will need to take a written test over basic driving rules and score an 80% on a 25 question test. DMV in Manhattan is open Tuesday through Friday from 7:00AM to 5:00PM. If you are going in to take the test they would like you be at the DMV by no later than 4:30PM.
